Oriflame Cosmetics, a Swedish cosmetics manufacturer, had trouble conveying all the necessary information on a single label.
To solve this issue, the company designed a label with an additional peelable layer. This allowed Oriflam to disclose all relevant product information to consumers without having to resort to multileaf fold-out labels or other less-attractive labeling options, Greener Package reports.
Oriflame opted for the peel label due to the growing number of compliance issues the cosmetics industry is facing. The label enables the products to look elegant without having warning stickers all over the face of the packaging.
"[Consumer demand for more disclosure] led to the need for more legal text in multiple languages — to be included on packaging," Tony Igoe, sourcing manager at Oriflame, told the website. "To meet this requirement, Oriflame has had to launch multiple variants of each product, up to six in some cases, to cover the global marketplace."
Many makeup products contain carcinogens and other undesirable ingredients, which has led to more regulations requiring manufacturers to disclose what goes into their cosmetics.
