    Evoking Emotion Through Custom Labels

    What Is Emotional Marketing?

Digital technologies are changing the game of marketing. With more tools and processes available than ever before, sellers are able to capitalize on a vast array of strategies and solutions for customizing packaging and labeling materials. But when it comes to appealing to their target audiences, few tactics have proved more effective than tapping into their emotions.

Emotional marketing has been used by some of the biggest and most successful brands across the globe for many years. And with good reason: Consumers tend to base their brand decisions on their emotions, not logical information. According to Buffer, research has shown that marketing campaigns that use emotional content tend to outperform those that use rational content by about double. Part of the reason it is so effective is that it can help build brand awareness and exposure. For example, psychologists have learned that when something makes a person happy, that individual is more likely to want to share it - hence why cute videos of animals tend to go viral often.

The source also referenced a wheel of emotions that can help explain how certain feelings can tap into others. For example, admiration is often associated with trust. Therefore, if you put a positive message on your product label, it could lead to shoppers viewing your brand as being more trustworthy. Put simply, emotion influences motivation, which drives action.

    Creating an Emotional Connection

Custom labels serve many different purposes and are an invaluable tool for marketers to use to their advantage - allowing them to differentiate their products from others on the shelves, deliver a meaningful message, demonstrate brand identity and create a lasting impression. And they are also a great way to establish an emotional connection.

For example, right now many consumers are excited about it being football season. By changing product labels to include the logo of the local sports teams, you will not only fuel loyalty but also facilitate a sense of comradery. Suddenly, it becomes less about the product and more about showing support for the team and associating with a business that shares the same values.

The effectiveness and benefits of using custom labels to appeal to people's emotions aren't just something businesses can leverage, either. Emotion is something that can - and should - be used for personal situations as well. Let's say you have an event coming up that you plan to need decorations and/or party favors for. Designing and printing personalized labels for it is a great idea. Adding the date of the event or matching it to the theme of the celebration can immediately transform otherwise boring souvenirs into sentimental mementos that are more meaningful and personal. Whether it is a wedding, anniversary, graduation or some other important event, custom labels can be used to tap into the emotions of guests and make it so the products can be kept and used as reminders of the special occasion.

Another demonstration of the power personalized labels can have in creating an emotional experience occurs when they are used to make an important announcement. For example, earlier this month, the Today Show shared a video that was going viral in which a son revealed to his mother that she was about to be a grandmother by handing her a bottle of wine she was cooking. On the wine label was a picture of the sonogram. This has also become a popular approach brides employ to ask their family and friends to be in their bridal party.

Labels can play a useful and important role in life's milestones and important moments. However, the key is figuring out which emotion you are trying to evoke.

    Tips for Designing Labels

Before creating the custom label, you must first determine what kind of effect or emotional response you want the label to have. For example, should it make the person feel excited? Sentimental? Understanding this is the first step in establishing what design elements should be used. Then, in order to ensure the final product meets your expectations, you need to choose the right digital label printing company to work with.

  • It's Wine Harvest Season: Time to Think about Wine Labels

From the Vine to Store Shelves

From August to October, it's harvest time for vineyards in the Northern Hemisphere. That means it's time to think about putting those grapes on store shelves as wine. A refresh of label design could make the bottles more likely to appeal to customers, and there are plenty of great custom wine bottle labels out there for vintners interested in the market. If your find yourself in this situation, it's time to consider whether a new labeling strategy will breathe life into your wines' look and appeal.

Win Shoppers' Eyes with Customized Wine Bottle Labels

It's a great time to be a consumer of wine, as vineyards around the world are putting great products on shelves every year. Standing out among these offerings is a challenge, and the label may be the deciding factor that influences a shopper. This means that it's a mistake to take packaging for granted. Even if a vineyard has an age-old look that it's keen to preserve, there is room to select a new label material or adopt a new printing process to ensure the classic logo looks sharper and more appealing than ever before.

Custom wine labels can be tuned to suit a vineyard's particular character. Maybe one type of wine is meant to have a classical, refined old-world appeal. An earthy, weathered label style could give this elegant impression and attract buyers with developed palates. Or perhaps your vineyard is more interested in appealing to young customers who are interested in fast-paced nights out and fun times with friends. A bright and contemporary set of wine bottle labels could be just what it takes to solidify that impression.

Harvest Time is Time to Plan Ahead

What kinds of bottles will best express the character of this year's grapes? It's time to think about it. No matter how soon you want to begin bottling and packaging your harvest, it's not too late. Lightning Labels, true to its name, enables lightning-fast turnaround times. There's no need to stick with branding that is less than optimal. There is a new, exciting all-digital alternative waiting to take your appeal to the next level.

You can even use the vineyard itself as an effective component of your new labeling strategy. Gathering the grapes from the vines is likely a photo-friendly moment, and when you order custom wine labels from Lightning Labels, the high-definition digital printing process, those pictures can come across clearly and beautifully, giving customers an appetite-enhancing view of where the grapes came from.

Material Descriptions

Materials

BIOSTONE

One of our eco-friendly options that is actually made of stone—no trees are used. This material should not laminated.

CAST GLOSS

This is another material specially designed for the wine industry. It is paper-based with a high-gloss white finish. Same adhesive and liner as Estate #9.

CHROME (SILVER) BOPP

This material has the same water and oil-resistant properties as our White BOPP and Clear BOPP, but has the "mirror-like" look of shiny chrome.

CLASSIC CREST

Best suited for wine labels, this is a white paper stock with a dull matte finish. It is not suitable for lamination and is therefore not waterproof. Same adhesive and liner as Estate #9.

CLEAR BOPP

This is the clear version of the Polypropylene (BOPP) material. It has the same waterproof qualities as the White BOPP. It provides more of a "no label" look and is also suitable for window stickers (where reverse printing of the image allows the label to be applied to the inside of a glass window and be viewed from the outside).

ESTATE #9

This is a great option for wine labels, gourmet foods or applications where a textured finish is desired. Being a paper stock, it's not as water-resistant or durable as BOPP, but its light cream color and textured feel add a touch of the "unusual" to the right product. It features a special adhesive (removable in 100+ degree hot water) and a stronger liner particularly suited to machine application. Not suitable for lamination.

GOLD POLYESTER (METALIZED)

This material will make your labels shine! Suitable for most labeling applications, it has a strong adhesive backing and must be laminated. Choose glossy laminate to make your label designs pop, or matte for a unique, elegant look.

KRAFT (RECYCLED)

This is a recycled 100% post consumer waste material. It is a 55# paper material that is a wonderful option if an “earthy” appearance is desired. The stronger liner is well suited for machine application. Depending upon face, substrate, water temperature and dwell time, label may be removed in hot water. It is not suitable for lamination; therefore, it is not water or oil resistant.

REMOVABLE WHITE BOPP

This material is the same as our standard BOPP, but has a special, "less aggressive" adhesive designed to allow the label to be removed or re-positioned after application. Depending on the surface it will be applied to, customer testing is strongly recommended. We can provide samples for this purpose.

SATIN CLOTH

Quite the unique material! Yes, it is woven satin acetate cloth. Think wine or spirit labels! This material will make your product packaging POP. The stronger liner is well suited for machine application. Depending upon face, substrate, water temperature and dwell time, label may be removed in hot water.

SQUEEZABLE

A white, 3mil film that is better suited for squeezable applications. This material has proven to work well in a variety of applications, so you can be confident it will perform well for you.

VELLUM (RECYCLED)

A great “green” choice, this 60# vellum is 100% recycled with 100% post consumer waste material. Cannot be laminated. Is neither water nor oil-resistant. The stronger liner is well suited for machine application. Depending upon face, substrate, water temperature and dwell time, label may be removed in hot water.

WHITE BOPP

This is our most commonly used material and is suitable for most applications. It's a polypropylene material with a permanent adhesive. It is impervious to water and oils, and is particularly suitable for bath and body products, as well as food containers.

WHITE EARTHFIRST PLA

A more environmentally friendly alternative to White BOPP. The PLA stands for Polylactic Acid (a biopolymer made from corn rather than petrochemicals). Similar look and feel to BOPP and suitable for most applications, but should not be used directly on candle containers.

WHITE FLEXIBLE VINYL

This is our most substantial material. The vinyl is thicker than BOPP, and is most suitable for outdoor applications where greater strength and durability are needed, or where lengthy exposure to the elements is an issue.

WINDOW DECAL (CLEAR/ULTRA-REMOVABLE)

We offer this window decal option as an alternative to static cling. The face stock is clear with excellent clarity. The adhesive is an ultra-removable featuring excellent weatherability and UV resistance. It removes cleanly from a wide variety of substrates without staining or ghosting. Why worry about static clings staying on when you can have removable adhesive there to hold it in place?

Artwork Specifications

Laminates

High Gloss

High gloss is our most popular laminate. It is the least expensive option and provides protection for the label and a high gloss shiny finish.

Matte

The Matte Laminate provides your label with a dull, non-glossy finish. Some customers consider this achieves a more "natural" look.

Thermal Transfer

This is a gloss laminate that is designed to work with most over-printing thermal transfer printers. We do recommend you get samples first to test through your own printer before placing an order with this laminate.

UV Outdoor Gloss

As the name implies this is best used for labels that will be used outdoors. It has a high gloss finish with excellent UV resistance. It is best paired with our vinyl material for the most durable outdoor label.
